She was born August 20, 1951 in Eads, Colorado the daughter of Ellis  Eldon and Martha Mildred (Lavielle) Rutledge. Cindy was a long-time resi- dent of Elkhart, Kansas. She graduated in 1969 from Elkhart High School. She re- ceived her RN degree from Seward County Community College in 1991. Cindy worked as a nurse for the Morton County Health Sys- tem as well as Pioneer Manor in Hugoton, Kansas and Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson, Kansas. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the First United Methodist Church in Elkhart, Kansas. Cindy was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing and making jewelry Cindy married Thomas R. Gillespie Jr. on August 23, 1969 in Ava, Missouri. He survives. Other survivors include one son: Thomas Gillespie of Killeen, Texas; two daughters: Rebecca Gilles-pie of Salida, Colorado, and Iris Scruggs and husband Rodney of Elkh- art; one brother, Charles Rutledge of Wellsville, Kan- sas; one sister, Kay Van Kampen of Ozark, Missouri; two grandchildren, Logan Glenn and Riley Mae; and a number of nieces and neph- ews. Cindy is preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Thomas Victor Presley Rutledge. Funeral service was held Monday, March 15, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Elkhart, with Pastor Bruce Ferguson presiding. Burial was at the Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart. The family suggest memori- als be given for a Nursing Scholarship at SCCC, Liberal, Kansas in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 854, Elkhart KS 67950.
